Hehe, I always laugh with the Necron bit. It's the whole "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering" thing that get me. Hehe, Yocron or Necda, hehe ^_^

Well its the whole concept of Zero World that amuses me. Not that there shall be nothing, but that we ourselves shall become nothing. You wont die, you wont go to heaven or hell or the iifa tree or whatever your religion is (applying it outside of 9) its that you shall become nothing, lose your identity. It wont matter if your a king or a president or a devout christian or a terrorist or freakin Osama Bin Ladin! Everything you've ever done in your life, all of history to this point, all of the universes and earths greatest achievements have all come to nothing. So in the end nothing matters. Thats what I think Necron was about, the pointlessness of being.

Mmm... you're right, and it definately makes you think.
Have you played Grandia II? It also raises up some controversy.

Yea, I did Grandia 2 a couple years back. I remember the part where you went inside the blind girls head. I do recall G2 having the same them as FFx, and that is the dangers of fanatical religious zealosity.

You go inside Cloud's head as well on FFVII. The Final Fantasies tend to have Philosophical and Psychological messages and debates in them.

Actually, I've found that a lot of RPGS (including 9) use memories as their central theme. VII was a cooler version of Captain Planet! Wild ARMs 2 had a cool theme of who should be heroes and how should societies as a whole treat and construct them. (the Ecco series also have really cool themes of the power of the mind and our actions in time, but theryre not RPGs)

I always thought of Necron as a being.. that took orders to the extreme... If that makes sense. I mean, Necron was the spirital part of the Iifa tree, whose job was to sift through the souls and merge Terra and Gaia.. or something like that, its been awhile. But thats what I thought Necron was... it started to think on its own and decided that life would be better if there was.. well nothing. No life etc.
The silent hill games make you think... and instead of scaring you for like a moment and then you forget about it... it burns into your memory never to forget!

Aha! Chrono Cross. I mean.... there could always be an alternate world... just waiting for you to find it.
Grandia II did it much better tha FFX then in my opnion.

yea, but X was more along the lines of what happens when two conflicting religions clash and one side is a more dominate zealous group (I found it a parallel to the crusades, despite the game's supposed south easter asian feel). Grandia 2 was along the lines of society thats dominated by only one oppressive religion. (This was to me like the inquisition and the heavy oppression the catholic church laid down in europe)

Ah, but the big part for me of Grandia II was their worship in a dead God. I, well... dislike religeon. I just agreed with it a lot more than I did with X, so that's why it was better in my opinion.. if that makes any sense.

I think what makes RPGs special and stand out from the rest of the genres is the concepts they delve into. That and the fact many are deliberately ambiguouss gives them replay value. The more you play them, the more you understand and question things around you.
Do you think if I tell my Philosophy teacher that I was delving into Philosophy by playing FFIX he’ll forgive me for not doing my homework? >.<

NO! He wont, he'll just ask why you were playing 9 Anyhow, it's not just RPGS that hav themes. It just seems like it because they have dialgoue and events that make them like a story, and after spending 30, 40, or 50 plus hours with certain characters in a certain setting, your bound to get affectionate towards them, their plight, and their motives. I've mentioned it before, but the ECCO series are great puzzle games that have really deep plots. I doubt any of you will veer play it, but essentially SPOILER Ecco is a dolphin whose family is taken by the Foe, an alian marine race that is constantly pillaging other world of their water. Ecco meets the Asterite, who is pretty much God in the form of a double helix, and tells him that to defeat the foe, he must travel back in time and restore the Asterite. He does so and eventually defeats the Foe. Yay! But in Ecco2, we find out that because of what he did in the first game, traveling in time, he has created several split futures, and in them the For has either dominated or dolphin kind itself has become merciless (though fantastic looking). The Asterite explains that it is Eccos place to be the stone that forever splits the stream of time in two, thus he is a tragic hero. Ecco rages on and defeats the For once more, but the he, and the Foe are plunged back to the beginning of Ecco 1, and since Ecco is the stone, it is his duty to forever repeat this loop. Kinda of a sad ending And then the 3rd one discounts all of it, but has its own cool themes. Go check em out, 1 and 2 are on the genesis and 3 is on the dreamcast/ ps2!

AND THAT IS WHY I PLAY RPGS. And that is why people who say they are 'boring' are idiots. Well, the ones at my school... a majority of them.

Yeah, I have that problem, if you say to someone you like RPGs they either don't know what they are or look at you as if you are crazy. One of my mates at school had never heard of Final Fantasy or Legend of Zelda >.<

SHE (no offense) is more of a boy band and soap type person >.< But yeah, I was surprised when she hadn' heard of them. I think she's heard of Mario though (how I hate him *glares at brother's copy of Mario 64 and at Mario's pic on the front of SSBM*) When I showed her a pic of Link her reaction was, 'is he wearing a dress' >.<
